The Illusion of Democracy: Why Voting Doesn’t Solve Everything

Do you vote in political elections?

Voting is one of the fundamental rights in the United States, but I personally choose not to participate. There was a time when I could vote, but I lost that right in 2023 after I was convicted of a felony. Even when I could vote, I had my reservations about the political system and the rights granted by what I view as a corporate-controlled structure. In my perspective, the United States operates more like a corporation than a democratic republic. It’s governed by a complex web of laws and regulations that seem to benefit the interests of those at the top, rather than everyday people. This perception has only deepened over time, especially since I lost my voting rights. Even if I could vote, I don’t think it would make a difference.I’ve come to believe that true power lies with “true Americans,” not with those who are under the influence of the United States Corporation, as I call it. Voting for a president or other government officials feels disconnected from the realities faced by many people. The system seems rigged, focusing more on corporate interests than the well-being of its citizens. So even if I regain my right to vote, I’m not sure I would use it. I’d rather seek other ways to make a difference, perhaps by supporting grassroots movements, advocating for reform, or finding community-based solutions. These approaches feel more genuine and impactful to me, compared to casting a vote in a system that seems fundamentally flawed.
